Step by Step Guide to Ordering your Countertop

-Points of Interest-

  • STEP 1: ESTIMATE AREA OF COUNTERTOP:

Assess the approximate quantity of material you need for the project.

The example below is for a basic kitchen but the same principle can be applied to a bathroom vanity. If you don’t want to deal with this technical aspect then call our Sales Team. They are happy to take your instructions and estimate approximate quantities.

  • STEP 2: SELECT STONE AND EDGE PROFILE:

Come to our showroom and browse our extensive range of slabs or view our slabs selection online. When you have chosen the material then select the edge profile.

  • STEP 3: CONFIRM QUOTATION AND PAY DEPOSIT:

Your approximate dimensions will allow your Sales contact to estimate the project costs. A contract will be prepared and a 50% deposit requires to be paid so that your project is placed on the work schedule. The timeline will vary upon the complexity of the project, but straight forward projects can be turned around in approx. 2 weeks.

  • STEP 4: MAKING THE TEMPLATES/ FINAL SHOP DRAWINGS:

Your Sales contact will call and schedule a home inspection to verify the layout, site measurements, and specific site conditions and complete templates. Our template guy will confirm selection of sinks and faucets and any other instructions to ensure that the scheduled installation goes smoothly. At this time also you can call into our facility and place the template on the actual slab that you have selected. If you don’t want to do this our experienced fabricators will select the best locations for seams based on the template layout.

  • STEP 5: INSTALLATION:

Your Sales contact will call in advance of the scheduled installation to make sure that all the preparation work is complete; e.g. old countertop removed, plumbing, cabinetry, flooring etc complete and that the site is clean and ready for receipt of material. The installer will fit the countertop. Cook tops or other electrical appliances which interface with the stone countertop will be left in position ready for connection by your electricians. On completion of the installation the remaining balance becomes due and payable.

  • STEP 6: CARE AND MAINTENANCE:

Using a soft cloth, clean stone surfaces with a few drops of neutral cleaner, stone soap (available at local hardware stores or from Holland Marble) or a mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks. Rinse the surface thoroughly after washing with the soap solution and dry with a soft cloth. Change the water frequently if cleaning a large area.

Do not use products that contain lemon, vinegar or other acids on marble, limestone, travertine or onyx surfaces. Never use abrasive cleaners, acidic mixes, and pumice or steel wool pads to clean stone surfaces.

All of our countertops are sealed in the factory but we recommend resealing every 2 – 3 years depending on usage. Granite is an extremely durable surface; it is impervious to heat and highly scratch resistant. However, it is not scratch proof and care should be taken in use and cleaning. On the other hand calcareous stones like Marble, Limestone, Travertine and Onyx are easily scratched and will ‘etch’ if acidic liquid is spilled on them.

Check with Holland Marble Sales Team for more advice on stone selection and recommended natural stone cleaning methods and products for both heavy duty and every day use in kitchens, bathrooms, food preparation areas, outdoor pool and patio areas.

To complement our core offering of stone countertops, we offer a wide range of affordable tiles and sinks, which means that Holland Marble can be a one-stop shop for those remodels and new building projects.
